Mental Health Services:
Drawing upon integrated treatment principles derived from complex trauma literature, attachment theory, and neurobiology research, Point Quest offers an interdisciplinary, relationship based, and multi-tiered intervention approach which actively promotes a trauma sensitive and supportive system of care for at-risk and traumatized youth within the educational environment. The embedded “milieu” treatment model sequentially guides students through the developmental phases necessary to ensure competent and fluent utilization of critical skills across multiple life domains. Included as a core component to their specialized academic program, all students participate in daily skill streaming activities through our Pieces of Success courses, which utilizes differentiated curriculum and a wide variety of cognitive, emotional and physical therapeutic techniques specifically tailored to deliver meaningful instruction at students individual zones of proximal development. Various cognitive, emotional, and physical techniques commonly utilized include; direct teaching, story telling, bibliotherapy, art therapy, play therapy, theatrical reenactments, music, dance, meditation, movement, recreational sports, and sensory integration (auditory/visual/tactile/kinesthetic). The served activities assist in building adaptive coping and self-regulation skills in the areas of attention, affect, and behavior. Additionally, they teach and reinforce enhanced critical thinking skills, encourage social networking among peers and adults, and promote personal independence through developed transitional and independent living skills.
Point Quest is noted to provide Related Mental Health Services (e.g. Counseling and Guidance, Individual Counseling, Social Work Services, and Psychological Services) in addition to the embedded school-wide therapeutic “milieu.” A licensed therapist in accordance with the service provision documented in a student’s IEP and the guidelines specified in the California Educational Code provides these services.
Speech & Language Services:
Point Quest utilizes licensed Speech-Language Pathologist (SLP) and Speech-Language Pathology Assistants (SLPA). Qualified SLP’s conduct all assessments as well as create a functional treatment plan designed to assist each student successfully access their academic program. Instructional goals developed through the IEP process may address skills in the areas of articulation, expressive/receptive language, voice, fluency, pragmatic language and pre-academic skills. Educational progress is the ultimate goal of all intervention sessions and therefore coordination with the student’s teacher as well as other members of the IEP team is fundamental to educational benefit.
Our behavior analyst provides daily support in shaping behavior and increasing self-regulation skills in each student. Functional Analysis Assessments and Positive Behavior Intervention Plans are completed as requested through the IEP process and designed to assist the team in evaluating the environment, teaching strategies and positive reinforcement strategies. By understanding the behavior and teaching alternatives or changing environmental conditions, we seek to permanently change the way students seek to get their needs met.
Point Quest also implements a daily behavior collection program, which is designed to provide students feedback on their behavior in the areas of social, on-task, compliance and their individual behavior goal from their IEP.
